Missing tilting fillet - Felt support tray

Hi,

I am missing the tilting fillet on my garage roof, I'm thinking of re-roofing, would I still have to install a tilting fillet if I installed felt support trays

Wouldn't the felt support tray bridge the gap where the tilting fillet should be

Felt support trays will be fine.

Can you nail these on to the roof truss ?
What would be sufficient overlap when installing ?

I nail them to the rafters, they sometimes split if its cold so you may need to make a hole, I overlap them about a foot if its a steep roof then you can go down to 6".
