Mist coat before filling old walls

Hi,I have a hallway which has been stripped,the walls are really old and are gona be lined most of the walls are back to plaster but there is a lot of filling to be done,do you think it will be ok to fill these without sealing them,I will be sizing the Walls before lining many thanks
 
No, the filler won't grip. Dilute PVA is best.
 
No just the bits that need filling. The odds are that you have lime render which is very crumbly. The pva will harden it up - then you can fill it.
