Does anyone repair power tools and have some advice?

My old mitre saw spins the motor but not the blade. When I have stripped it down, the issue is in this part:

The gear spins freely from the spindle. I'm guessing there is a key or something that has sheered.

I have removed a circlip and washer from the spindle with the hope the gear can be removed, but it doesn't budge.

I'm thinking I have stripped it down to the smallest serviceable component and it is new mitre saw time. This is a 20 year old cheap saw, but if it can be fixed, I'd rather give that a go first.

This is a 20 year old cheap saw,
So parts unlikely - unless its a clone
that small square on the cog - can you see if it lines up - maybe its a parallel key - And i guess would need a press or bearing puller to get it apart

If you cant get the bit - make and model of the SMS - then i guess labour to fix would be more than the cost to replace - unless a local garage can help take apart - but then you need the keys (maybe just a bit of 3mm ish retangle metal

maybe this site

maybe its just sheared the key and you may need to get that cog off to see the sheared part and remove - or ?????
maybe able t o
Because the gear is a tight press-fit, you need to slide it off the spindle shaft to access the keyway pocket underneath.
  • Use a small bearing puller or a workshop press.
  • Alternatively, support the underside of the gear on a sturdy vice (leaving room for the shaft to drop through) and gently tap the top of the spindle shaft downward with a brass drift punch and a hammer.

Thanks. I don't have a bearing puller or press, so I suspect it is not worth repairing.

There are some parts online, from China which look about right, for £40, or if I decide I don't want to but a good quality saw this time, Screwfix have a well reviewed Titan one, probably no worse than the broken one, for £60.

I just like to avoid throwing things away unless I really have to.

i suspect the quality of a new one , is much lower than a 20 year old tool
if its in screwfix , it maybe on show at B&Q so you can see what you are getting, although not sure but i think screwfix may get specific items , i think they do ket kits made for them by dewalt etc
Toolstatiion sometimes have good offers as well
