mitres on architrave

With door frames, do people just cut the mitres at 45 degrees and squeeze the architrave legs in/out slightly if it is out of square? Or do you have to cut this precisely to what you have in place? I would have thought most frames are pretty square if the door is opening/closing within it.

Also, it feels sensible to start with the header ad then slot in the legs.

I would appreciate your advice with this.
 
It was years ago when working with a joiner, I was doing the very same job. Iirc, the legs went in first and then the header. Legs were possibly mitred, then header scribed.
 
Well, it depends what bodger fitted the frames!
If I do a full job and I've fitted the frames, I cut all at 45⁰.
