Monbloc Mixer Tap - Non-return Valve?

I'm replacing a monobloc mixer tap with new. Do I need a non-return valve in the pipework and if so which pipe, the Hot or the cold.
There isn't one in the existing pipework.

You'll need one on the hot side to stop mains possibly pushing water up into a storage cistern.
It all depends in practice, how good the tap is!
