BTW, was it like-for-like quote or for a carpet that looked the same but then much better quality?
Happens to us also, prospect see a Oak engineered floor online (where you can hardly see what you get) and thinks we should beat that price on one of our products that kind of looks the same.
....It was a "named carpet" and "colour" so actually an exact "like for like" quotation.
What really anoys me is we are a top 10 account for this particular manufacturer in our area. You would think this gives us maximum discount so how the hell does an online company sell it cheaper than we can buy it, plus deliver it to the customers home address and make a profit?????
Ah, that practice!
In total, over the last years we sacked 3 manufacturers/suppliers for that reason, if they want to forget independent retailers/traders add more value to their products then we forget to order with them.
These manufacturers/suppliers gave various reasons: we can't influence which company sells our product at what price and - mainly from wholesale suppliers: but you make profit on installation (conveniently forgetting we also supply to DIY-ers).
