hi guys, have 124 yr old house, lime mortar mix for walls,

have blocked up a door and built the internal wall out of thermo blocks, have original bricks for outside but wanna know how best to match the mortar colours,,

most of house is original lime mortar kinda sandy coloured, had work done a while back and they used cement and sand and made it look sandy almost a match.

my question is have been experiementing and to get it to look that sandy its like a 16-1 mix, surely this isnt strong enough ???? or is there a difernet way to mix it etc. ??

thx

Colour of lime mortar will be determined by the sand. You are unlikely to be getting sand out of the same pit now, so you will have to experiment with whtaever sand you get locally.

A red sand would normally be light brown to darker grey, and a lighter/yellower sand will be lighter grey to white
