i've got some 9'8 x 13'1 wall tiles im putting round the bath (2 high) then a run of 5 of the very small mosaic tiles (the 1's on the webbing backing) then another 2 high over the larger 1's. the mosaic tiles are about half the thickness of the 9'8 x 13'1s. what's the best way to make mosaic 1's come out to the same level as the others ?

i tried putt just some more adhesive behind but it's impossible to get the mosaic 1's flat.

any help gratefully received.

thanks,

Depends on how much depth you need to make up. If its 6mm then Aquapanel thermal will do, you can get it in Wickes in 4ftx2ft sheets.

You could cut strips of cheap white 6x6 tiles which are usually about 4mm thick and should cost less than £5.00 for 1m2.

Basically anything that will hot be affected by moisture will do.

If you are using a powdered adhesive like BAL Mosaic Fix then there are ways to apply an even depth of adhesive but I wouldn't do it with a readymixed adhesive.

When I do mosaic borders I fix all the main large tiles and leave a space where the mosaics will go by cutting strips of scrap ply or MDF toi the required width. Once the adhesive has firmed up on the tiles I then fit the mosaics and press them in using a grout float across the border and resting on the tiles this keeps them all nice and flat. This also stops the weight of the tiles above from compressing all the mosaics and making them bow & buckle, essential when doing wide borders like this
