Hi, my lawn being badly infested with moss I intend to make an effort this year to try to kill it off. The only problem being that we have a moggy and can only find a moss killer that stipulates that animals must be kept away from it.Can anyone suggest what, if anything, can be used to kill the moss but is animal friendly? Please don't suggest getting rid of the cat as it's my wifes.

The usual stuff to get rid of moss is iron sulphate which also keeps your grass healthy. Chuck it in a watering can, sprinkle on the lawn, keep your cat indoors for an hour, job done. 3-4 weeks later rake the brown moss out the lawn and re-apply. Or send your cat over here, my greyhound would love to meets its acquaintance.

Having spent a tiresome few hours with a hollow core tiner (taking more time to clean the tool than use it!!!!) and top dressing it and overspreading my lawn with seed I can vouch for the benefits of spending a couple of weekends getting it sorted :)

Nozzle, Thanks for that, have never done it that way before. Usually spread it around then water it in so will give it a try.
PS Will send you the moggy if it cops its clogs.

you can apply sulphate of iron in granule form but its not as effective as the coverage tends to be more sporadic.

Mix it in warm water as it can be quite hard to disolve such a large amount of product in a small volume of water.

It depends on the way it is granulised. So follow the directions.

there will be a rate for turf hardening/ green up and then a rate for moss killing.
