MOT question

looking at the checklist, it says:

"Stop lights, indicators and hazard lights*
are the correct type and colour
do not interfere with each other in operation
driver's tell-tale works with respect to indicators, or there is an audible warning system"

but it doesn't say they should work...!!! A pedant would have a field day with these words?
It would be somewhat difficult to ascertain whether the hazard lights interfered with anything else if they weren't functioning.

The whole thing about the dodgy MOT is irrelevant anyway. The car is not "legally roadworthy" and needs to be made so, in precisely the same way that tyres that go bald need replacing. You have only managed to defer the inevitable that they have to be fixed.

So close to XMas too

Check the flasher unit as the first step, as it's a common point of failure. If that's all right, then it's time to look for bad connections or a faulty switch.

Interesting, thanks... looks like i got lucky !! should i complain... and fail my MOT? or just find a different garage? Or stay and enjoy their failings?
Hmm another tricky one, maybe actually fix them?

yeah but i'm not an auto/electric engineer.... so the fuse goes back in, but the indicators don't work!!
If only there were some kind of experts out here who knew how to fix cars. Tis a bummer all right.

Bung a thread on the car section of the forum. Failing that, Mickymoody may be along lately and does seem to have some knowledge about such matters either from his experience or extensive research.

Ask a copper on Hampstesd Heath - They know a lot about flashers :D

But they often don't actually know too much about the vehicle lighting regulations.

Like the one some years ago who didn't know that turn signals may be white and red on older vehicles, or even the comments on my local police force website about car modifications which claim that it's illegal to display any sort of blue light on a private car.
