That might be the case - but why spend more on a dummy camera when you can get a real one that, you know, looks realer.

Sounds like an expensive option. To recap, the OP has a garage 40 metres from his house and wants something that detects motion and notifies him immediately. What setup do you suggest/recommend?
 
Blink. If it has power you can extend internet over electric cables and have a wifi adaptor plugged in. Notifications to phone. £50 in the Amazon Prime day coming up in the next week.

And create interference to your neighbour's radio reception.

If you need data sent to a location 40 metres away make the effort to install a data cable.

Also the quality of the data after being carried by dubious equipment for 40 metres along power cables would be questionable.
 
If dummy cameras are your thing, I'm sure I've seen them in poundland before.
 
Forgot to say. Have no power in garage. There are battery motion detectors that call your phone using a sim though. Just wondered if anyone could recommend one?
