I have a potterton boiler(not combi). When i select hot water from the programmer all is fine the boiler fires up but when i select CH on its own the boiler doesn't fire up.

When I select CH on its own i can hear a clicking noise coming from the Motorised Valve Actuator as if it is getting stuck. I have checked the thermostat and this seems to be okay as i can hear a click when i turn the temperature up.

If i select HW and CH together and pull the lever on the actuator over to manual the CH does warm up. Am I right to assume i need a new Motorised Valve Actuator (just the white box bit?), and if yes is this easy to fit?

when you select heating only has the lever still got resistance on it ?
is the valve constantly clicking when heating selected ?

sounds like the motor is jumping on the ratchet and so not opening the valve.
you can buy just the actuator

yes it has two screws opersite corners that remove the actuator.
yes only five wires in your wiring centre box remove and replace one at a time then you can't go wrong.
isolate the power first.
