Hi,
I have an old baxi solo 2 boiler. During the summer I noticed hot water heating the rads so I turned them off. When it started getting colder I turned the heating on but it wouldn't work without the hot water on. The rads were hot but couldn't adjust the temp. Like an idiot I thought it must be the 3 port valve and changed it without testing to see if there was power at the white wire. I'm still heating the rads from the hot water the central heating won't fire up the boiler by itself Unfortunately I lent my multimeter to a friend so I can't test it at the moment... can anyone suggest anything . Is it the thermostat or the programmer or something else

It could be anything and the only way to test is with your meter!

Ok got the MMT back... Have tested the white wire with heating & water on & heating only, power fine... Tried moving the manual switch it wont budge!! Also the boiler is only firing up for a couple of minutes then off then back on 2 minutes later... As the manual switch won't move wondering if the valve is blocked

have done a bit more testing here

turned off fused spur to reset

no calling 230v grey 77v orange

HW 230v orange 230v white... lever resistant

CH 230v white 230v grey... lever floppy

HW/CH 230v white 230v orange... lever floppy

Took the actuator off & tried to move the valve by hand ..Won't move I think there must be a blockage there??

this is a new valve & I've got exactly same problem as I had before I changed it

Have you changed both the body and the actuator?

If so why did you change the actuator as well when the problem seemed to be a seized body?

Tony

I initially changed the body which was a landis & gyr mav 322 for a siemens cav something.. anyway it is compatable. I only took the actuator off the siemens to see if i could move the spindle...the thing is I still have exactly the same problem as when I had the L&G.. the electrics appear to be OK but the CH won't fire up by itself & even with the HW on it is not responding to the stat therefore it appears that the hot water is heating my rads not the CH.
If the body is blocked it seems strange as this is a new valve

hello not getting much help here... could I have wired the grey wire to the wrong terminal??
