I have recently moved house and it is not possible to get hot water from the boiler system. The system worked when we first moved in but stopped a couple of weeks later. Luckily I am able to heat the water using the immersion heater, but I assume this is an expensive way of heating water ?

The boiler is a Potterton Netaheat 10-16 (Mk II).

This feeds the radiator system which works well, with the exception of the rad in the bathroom which remains cold. I have checked the valves on the rad and they are both turned to the open position. However when checking the valves one leaked slightly and the leak only stopped when the valve was turned hard to the open position.

In the loft there are two tanks. Again I assume that one feed the hot water system and the other feed the rads ?

On the first floor is an airing cupboard which contains the hot water tank. This has an electric immersion heater with an on/off switch. There is also a 2-Port motorised valve on 28 mm copper pipe which I assume allows hot water from the boiler to pass through the heating coil ?

The valve is an ACL Lifestyle 2-Port Motorised Valve (779H335 30L10) it is powered and an lever moves between "A-B" when the tank stat is adjusted. However when hot water is called for the tank contents or the pipe that the valve is mounted in do not get hot/warm.

Can you help please ?

Is your system full with water? Can you bleed the upstairs rads and get water out?

Even though the lever is moving the valve body could be stuck.

I take it that the boiler is firing when valve opens? If not could just be valve actuator.

ive never known an acl valve to fail like that.

if the plastics inside break it usually means the valve passes water all the time. the valve bodies dont seize easily either.

this is asssuming the boiler is getting a demand from the valve......if its not then it will be the microswitch......probably burnt to a crisp.

Thanks for the replies.

The rads have water I have bled them to check.

The boiler also fires when hot water is called for.

I have taken the cover off the 2 port valve and there is no sign of excessive heat. I would say the micro switch has not burnt out.

I assume that the actuator cannot be removed and the valve turned manually ?

Any more thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.
