Moulded back boxes?

Hey all,

Does anyone know if I can get moulded plastic back boxes that will accept 20/25mm plastic conduit?

I was going to use metal clad for my garage but I don't really see the point as they won't be in any danger of getting knocked. But all the plastic back boxes I've seen and used don't have the holes to receive the conduit.

I've seen ones which have tapered adapters to allow the use of mini trunking.

Why are you using conduit if there's no danger of impact damage?

Hi BOS.

I've seen the ones with mini trunking but I might be mad but I quite like the look of conduit. If it's straight it all kind of looks neat. I'm not a fan of the mini trunking tbh.

Is it ok to use PVC backboxes? I'm only asking because I thought traditional back boxes were brittle due to their heat retaining abilities.

PVC boxes are fine. It would be a mad thing to sell if you weren't allowed to use them!

I think it's fire resistance, rather than 'heat retaining' which results in all traditional white accessories (not just boxes) being made out of that brittle material (some sort of thermosetting urea-formaldehyde resin, I think) - but, as has been pointed out, the PVC boxes are clearly regarded as acceptable.

I agree, conduit looks much better. I hate trunking!

If you have any horizontal runs you're going to need a lot of clips.

No such problems with metal boxes and steel conduit

But if you want neat, seek out photos of RF's pyro installation in his garage, or ask nicely for a repost of them.

Interesting - thanks. One learns something every day!

I must say that I've always wondered a bit about the fire/thermal behaviour of the PVC ones, but I assume that Standards require that they are acceptable in that respect.
