I have a hall switch which is, irritatingly, on a wall just inside a cupboard that was built subsequently by the previous owners.

Ideally, I’d like to extend the cables to an architrave switch with a metal back box in the door frame of the cupboard.

The cables would still be in the safe zone.

The joins would be inside the metal pattress of the original switch, using terminal blocks, and covered with a blanking plate.

Is that allowable and if so what regulations are in place covering this alteration?

Thanks.

All that i can think of is that if any of new cable is to be buried in plaster or the like then you may not have any rcd protection on that circuit.
