Moving Boilers ??

Hi there,

I was hoping someone could offer some advice, or even point me to an official helpline to get the answer to the following :

I currently have an old'ish boiler (non condensing - but it has that flu thing coming out of the exterior of the house through a short metal tube). We want to move the boiler out of the bedroom , downstairs. I've had 2 people in for quotes. The first gave me a price and said sure no problem and said that I have the choice to get a new one or not. The second guy came in, looked at it and said that he wouldn't be allowed to move it and that by law I have to purchase a new boiler.

Is there an official gas/plumbing government place we can check to find out what is actually official and what's not ? Otherwise, if anyone knows 100% what the legalities are - I'd gladly appreciate it muchly!

I'm absolutely 100% uncertain, but I beleive the boiler can be moved if the new position is an existing part of the building, whereas if it's going in a new extension it should be treated as a new install and needs to be of the high efficiency type.

if its over 10years old I think you'd be better off replacing it.
Dunno about the regs though, clear as mud!
