moving electric sockets

I need to move a double socket in a bedroom.
the wall is an internal hollow wall.
where it is at the moment it is fixed into a wooden support
where I want it there is no support
how does one safely fit a socket on plasterboard walls ?

How/where will you re-route the cables, and what will you do if they aren't long enough?

I only had to move the socket 12" and the cable was long enough thanks
