Hey guys,

We are in the process of getting our boiler changed for a combi and I need to get a wall built in the loft for it to be mounted.
Problem is, where I want the boiler is where the F&E tank is.
So I'm thinking of moving it out of the way, so we can still have heating right up to change over day.

The tank is currently higher than the cold water tank and over the other side of the loft, which am I right in thinking it should really be lower?

I've unlagged the pipe work to see what I'd need to do to move it, cold water in and overflow shouldn't be a problem, just simply cut down and join up.

Then I've got this:

And Im thinking....

Red goes to boiler: cut and lengthen

Green is expansion.

Black is hot water out from tank

Blue: cut and shorten.

Orange is an illusion and isn't actually a part of this bit of pipe.

Hopefully this makes sense to you, I've just typed this all out twice as my phone threw me out, so may have missed a couple bits out 2nd time round!

Cheers

You won't need any of that guff if you're changing to a combi. In fact you won't need any pipes in the loft at all - no tanks, no hw cylinder, etc.

So you don't need to care what the pipes are. Just drain and decomission your heating system and cut the lot out where it enters the loft, ready for the new combi to come in.

This is why I want to move it, otherwise we'll be without hot water and heating while we run the new pipe work, build the wall get it up and running etc.
it's being done outbid hours so won't all be done in a day or two.

Cheers
