We are due to complete shortly on a house that has been empty for a year. My main concern is the potential for stagnant water in the cold and hot water storage tanks (it's an indirect system). I have two small children who inevitably end up drinking bathwater from time to time. Any advice on what I should do to ensure we don't run into any health issues after moving in ?

I assume it would be prudent to fully drain the system before we take any showers/baths and that just running the taps for half an hour would not likely suffice ?

Is there anything else we should consider doing ? Any antibacterial products we could add to the tanks to ensure we've killed everything ?

Many thanks.

and put a close-fitting lid, and an insulating jacket on the tank after you've cleaned out the dead spiders and pigeons. the jacket stops it getting too warm in summer, which encourages bacteria and algae to grow.

the latest overflow kits include a mesh to flies out.

And check the heating pump is free to turn before powering up the system.
