Hi,

I want to move my BT master socket as it's currently located underneath the wall mounted boiler in the kitchen. My broadband has to be run off an extension and as my line quality is pretty rubbish I'd like to move the master into the office (the room next to the kitchen). BT haven't answered me about cost but to be honest I can't really justify it anyway as I've recently been made redundant. I've done telephone extension wiring in a previous job so I'm happy I know what I'm doing- my concern is that I will need to buy the BT black cable (is this the right stuff: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20m-Exter...=UK_Phones_PhoneLeads_RL&hash=item337cba2f77) and I'd have to join it outside as I need about 3 metres more to reach the office. Any idea what junction box I'd need to make this look reasonably like a BT installation?

Thanks in advance for any help!
I do know that this is meant to be done by BT but that isn't really an option with the prices they charge (when they don't actually bother to get back to you anyway!). :(

I'm not convinced there is any point in moving the master socket.

The important things to improve ADSL speed are.

1: use decent quality cable (ideally BT spec cable but cat5 is ok too, the cheap crap they sell in diy stores is not good for ADSL signals) for all unfiltered wiring.
2: avoid branches in the unfiltered wiring.

You can acheive both of these without moving the master socket by fitting a faceplate with built in filter and unfiltered terminals on the back (e.g. http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=90 ). Then from the unfiltered terminals on the back run BT spec cable ( e.g. http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=96 ) to a RJ11 outlet (e.g http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rj11-Wall-Socket-Surface-Mount/dp/B00412I2HQ ) where you want your ADSL router. Connect all phone extensions to the filtered terminals on the back of the filter faceplate.

Plugwash's advice is the best. If you add an extra joint in the incoming cable then you may reduce the quality of the ADSL signal.

Leave the NTE 5 where it is and separate ADSL from phone wiring at that point with a splitter front plate.
