I want move a socket approx 2 metres along a stud partition wall. This wall will be skimmed once all work in the room is complete. The easiest way to do this as far as I can see is to cut out windows in the plasterboard, close to the studs, then drill holes in the studs and run a new cable through these to the new position. The current socket is spurred from another socket directly behind it on the other side of the wall. The original socket would be removed with the new relocated socket being connected in its place, if that makes sense. I would then make good the holes before the plasterer came in. Is this the best way to do this?

The other way. Maybe not so good
Is when you come across a wood stud dig into the plaster (the width of cable ) until you get to the wood. Then chisel a bit of wood off to allow the clearance for cable.
Then put a bit of card over cable and plaster over.
Gives you minimal plaster removal.
Or put socket within a few inches of stud and use right angle chuck
Whatever you find easiest.
Use the plaster from the socket cutout to fill the old hole.
