my dishwater empties into my washing machine!!

I was hoping someone will be able to help me. We bought an indesit dishwasher at the weekend, we had to use a 'Y' connector for the washing machine & dishwasher waste. Now when the the dishwasher has been used. the washing machine needs to be drained of water, could some one please help me this wasn’t a problem with my washing machine previously.

you have to loop each waste pipe up, above the level of the join and above the level of the trap.
