The timber on the corners of my Mums porch is rotting from the brick base that they seem to be sunk into.

I think they must be supporting the roof and structure.

What are my options in terms of repairing the posts?

And in terms of the decorative wood above, is this just decorative and can it therefore just be replaced like for like?

Many thanks.

May be worth checking just how rotten the posts are first as it may be possible to just chop out the first inch of surface timber and patch some treated timber in. Try pushing a skewer or similar in just to determine the extent of the rot. The mock Tudor timbers are most likely decorative and can be replaced without any structural issue but the render between them may want to come with them so careful removal will be needed if they need to be replaced.

For the porch, yes a splice or face splice, and/or saturate the timber with a preservative, then a water repellent, then a hardener, then polymer sealant to brick junction, then paint.

Apply the water repellent to the top of the wall and 150mm or so down the face.

You'll need to do likewise for the rest of the frame and wall, not just where the posts are.

For the roof gable, something similar, or replace/splice repair.
