Well considering its age and that most if not all those components are original, there is no point getting upset over a little expenditure.
to be very very honest, by the pics you posted the boiler has been neglected and needs a little tlc,

No, just fricking expensive, 'cos there are hardly any of these boilers still alive.
I do a CP12 on at least one of those! So not all dead.
The rusty patch on the front seems a little odd. If the metal is perforated that it could be unsafe!
I also recommend you get the immersion sorted out on the same visit ready for when the boiler breaks down again or gets condemned !
