can someone help,
I switched on my oven the other day and a couple of minutes later there was a spark and a pop and now neither the oven or hob will work. I'm guessing it has tripped and blown the fuse! or is it more terminal than that?

Yes almost definitely fuse blown or breaker tripped, question is what made it go?
Not wishing to insult your intelligence, but if you're not sure about electricity then best to call in an electrician, especially if its a 45A cooker circuit.

regards the oven not working you need to get yourself a qualified electrician  .however it comes with a price you might end up with him telling you that your property is not earthed when first built and that he can do it for 2 grand including vat    most houses from the 50,s and 60,s are seldom earthed as the leccys would say. even the 70,s they sometimes skimpted on the earthing.   if you have recently give your cooker a good cleaning sometimes water finds its way on the electrics and blows the fuse you need a proper electrician .dont look in the yellow pages go to your nearest bookies
