Although im 37 im quite new to wanting to make the garden look pretty here are my 2 questions

1 I have Bindweed ,Is there an easy solution to rid myself of it (its coming through from a playing field behind my house

2 I want to plant some nice easy to look after shrubs that will look nice all year round ,can you suggest anything

i lied there are 3 questions

3. What do i do with a lavender bush now the flowers are dying off ?

3 clip it back for the winter if you want. Shears are fine.
 
bindweed is a !@#$% nightmare. Roots may be three metres long.
Yes give it a good bashing with the glyphosate - then smother it with other plants -

Low growing ground cover - vinca minor, evergreen with small purple flowers in spring. Hardy geraniums - Johnson's blue and G. endressii are good. Lamium species, Ajuga reptans - both ground smotherers - these two like shade. All these can be split when bigger to make more plants.

Bigger shrubs - evergreen shrubs will block out light and discourage weeds - Choisya ternata, Hebe any, Euonymus any, Photinia fraseri
Escallonia.

See what grows well in your area. Visit a good nursery, ask advice and read plant labels - All of above are good doers in most soils and aspects.
