I have a single pipe steam system with a single thermostat on the first floor. The radiator in my bedroom (second floor) has been shut off for years because the heat is so uneven and I am using electric heat there. I wondered if I could turn the steam radiator back on and use this valve to limit the heat so when the steam was up, the room wouldn't exceed, say, 70 degrees. If I set the electric heat thermostat at, say, 68, then the steam heat would kick in occasionally, hopefully allowing the electric to stay off for awhile and possibly saving me a few pennies.
I guess my biggest question is: Do these valves work acceptably well or are they a constant pain? And how accurate is the temp control?
