Hi,

I have a flat roofed bungalow which I believe was built in the 1970's and I am looking to replace the current roof with a pitched roof design.

At the weekend I removed one of the soffits to have a see what I had to contend with and discovered that the deck seems to be made of the material shown below. At a guess it is about 24-40mm thick.

Does anyone have any idea what the roof decking material could be?

Thanks

Its called Strawboard, is ok till it gets wet then it bows and rots etc. Just make sure the covering is in good order.

Roofer/Static,

Thanks for your replies, that seems to be the stuff alright. Is it likely to have some solid boarding on top or will the felt be applied straight over the top?

As I am going to remove the flat roof, I am not too concerned about it getting wet but looking at the "Greenspec" link, it says that it should be treated as hazardous waste. What does this realistically mean? am I looking at specialist removal contractor?

Thanks in advance.
