n reg corsa squeal

Hi My daughter has an n reg corsa she is getting a squealing noise from from around the steering wheel/instrument cluster could this be anything to do with the speedo cable? ive been unable to hear this but she says it comes after 20/30 mins of driving and will then come on always at the same speed and with stop if she slows down. any ideas or solutions
your assistance would be much appreciated

Yep - excellent diagnosis.
The official way is to remove the cable from the speedo head, and pull out the inner flexy wire for greasing. You then wipe off the top 6" of grease to prevent it working its way into the speedo itself. Twisting the cable as you reinsert it allows it to connect with the drive in the gearbox.

They usually buzz for ages - sometimes the speedo needle gets a bit bouncy too.
Its quite a pain taking the clocks out for such a simple thing!
The worst scenario is that the inner cable will snap, but I haven't seen this in many years.
