Nails or screws for ceiling boarding?

I'm going to be boarding out a new upstairs ceiling in 8 x 4 sound boards 12.5mm thick. What is the best method to fix them to secure and prevent cracking.Screws or galvanised clout nails? and what size?

I've only ever used screws but person helping put them up prefers nails any suggestions?

Screws everytime, Drywall screws at that, 38mm

fix them about every 6-8 inch and along all edges, remember to stagger joints of the board.
