Need advice on creating a log cabin in the back garden

I want to create a log cabin in the back garden to use as an office

My *biggest* concern is the cold temperature in winter

Can someone give me a few pointers where to start?

Should I buy ready made cabins from one of the established companies?

Or should I just buy raw materials?

Is it possible to JUST buy the plans for a cabin?

Insulation - I assume the ticket the better - but how can I ensure that I'm not going to be freezing in the winter + not needing to have an electric heater taking loads of money in fuel bills?

Any advice would be great

it will cost you more to build your own
so if you see one you like look and see if it has an insulation kit to go with it

you will be free from planning if you comply with certain criteria

Depending on the size you could install a log burning stove.
If well insulated running cost for heating should not be too high.

with kids around, i don't think i'd want to get a fire anyway, even if it safe

i think my plan would be to insulate as best as is feasibly possible and then use electric heating

No more dangerous than an unsupervised electric fire - at least a woodburner will go out if left alone.

and remember no sleeping accommodation but the odd sleep over with sleeping bags may be over looked

but won't be able to stop kids coming in and ransacking!
sleep overs only needed when in trouble with the wife
