neff dishwasher dispenser

the spring is sticking out of dispenser. ive been told to just put tablet in with cutlery. seems some end up clean other stained. someone said throw tablet in just before wash cycle. should i buy new dispenser seems to be about 45 quid, or is non clleaning not related?
