Could anyone help me with a problem with my Neff B1420 built-in oven ? I inherited this when I moved into my property in October 2013, so it is of unknown age.

About two and a half years ago I noticed that the oven was failing to heat up, although all other functions were working including the grill which operates within the same unit, using a separate element.

I replaced the oven element and all was fine for more than two years. Then the problem recurred.

I again replaced the element, which worked ok for about two weeks. Then the same problem again.

Can anyone explain why an oven element should repeatedly fail when all other cooker functions are working fine ? Surely an oven element should last for several years ? Could it just be down to the age of the oven ? Or is there some possible explanation, e.g. a fault in the electrical wiring ?

Grateful for any advice.

Is the fan running at the correct speed ? if the fan is running too slow then the element is likely to overheat and shorten it's life span.

I'm not sure. How do I tell ? It seems to be spinning fast enough. Although the oven had been working reasonably well, it hadn't quite been reaching the required temperature so I doubt that the element was overheating.

Would you expect a new element to burn out in two weeks without any heavy usage ?

is there a grease filter in the port where the fan sucks air out of the oven and sends it round the element?

is it clogged?

Internet mail order. Well the first one worked ok for two years. Are there some dubious quality ones out there then ?
