Silly question this. i need to move my router to a new position to get a decent signal (back where i know it worked) but i need a longer cable to do it. Its the blue one marked cat 5 that runs from the computer to the router. Am i right in thinking its called an rj45?

RJ45 is the type of connection, you are referring to a patch lead. Before you purchase a longer one, check the clear plugs at the end. If the colour sequence is the same its a straight through connection. If they are different it is probably a crossed connection.

yep both the same red blue green. Thanks for the help. so im just after an rj45 patch lead
