Then think how annoying it must be if you are a male professional and you get Anne Widdicombe then yer mate gets Alex Jones. How gutted must that make you feel.
My thoughts exactly. More to the point, they could hardly fail to dance better if they really were lovers. For those who aren't - and I would guess that's most of them - it must be difficult, even for a professional, to put all such thoughts out of your mind and concentrate on the dance. And what about the poor amateurs. How, exactly, do you give your best performance in a dance which is, to all intents and purposes, an expression of love when you know it's all an act and you have a real lover waiting for you at home?
