Totally stumped.I\\\'ve just bought a new 2 gang 2 way switch for my hall stairs and landing lights. The old switch terminals are labeled A B1 B2 (top) A A2 B (bottom). The wires into these terminals are :- (top)
yellow into A,red into B1,nothing in B2.
(botttom) blue into A, red into A2, black into B. there is also an earth wire into earth terminal on switch.
The new switch has (top)com, com.
(bottom) 1 way,2 way, 1 way, 2 way. plus an earth terminal. anyone know where to connect wires to new switch? :(

Okay - the two switches sit side by side but one is mounted upside down with respect to each other. That is terminal A connects to A1 or A2 depending on the position of that switch and terminal B connects to either B1 or B2 depending on the position of that switch. So your black into B and red into B1 should both come from the same bit of cable (if it's two core and earth) and work the light which is on a one-way switch (Hall/stairs?). The wires into all the A terminals are for two-way switching and operate the light which can be turned on/off from two different switch positions (landing?) They should also come from the same bit of cable (three-core plus earth)

Your new switch has all the same connections, but the switches are both mounted the same way up, so swap the wires over like this....

A = Com, A1 = 1-way, A2 = 2-way (Where com, 1-way and 2-way are all on the same side)
Then B = com, B1 = 1-way (on the other switch)

Hope that helps - oh, and make sure that you use the correct side switch for each light... otherwise you'll be turning the landing light on when you wanted the hall!
