New bath waste leaking

I've just installed a new bath waste in a steel roca bath and I get a leak from the nut after the rubber seal underneath the bath that holds the banjo in place.

Is this common or would you rather recommend swapping the bath waste with one that has the overflow molded in it rather than screw on type ?

Water can run around the fixing threads. A bit of LSX on the threads when assembling it often cures it, or a 1-1/2" version of the 'basin mate' washer.

from toolstation, does it disable the overflow or does it still allow water to flow through the overflow...i'm confused.
