Apologies but I am a rather nervous new home owner and have no experience with boilers so thought I'd post a query for some advice if anyone has time.

I have recently bought my first flat in London. It's 2 bed across 2 floors and is a victorian conversion. The heating system is an old Potterton standard boiler (at least 15 years old) with radiators (adjustable thermostat). It was making a sizeable amount of noise which I think is probably the fan and the circuit board has been very temeramental - after a bit of inappropriate fiddling the electrics had a fit and the circuit board was quite heavily singed. I recognised that I would probably need to get it replaced rather than just fixed given it's age.

I had a corgi registered boiler fitter (on recommendation) come round and he has given me a quote of £2600 + VAT. This is to fit a Valient HE boiler - I also want it moved from the kitchen to an adjacent cupboard. The guy explained that I would need to replace the flue (as it's not plastic) - it's quite long (about 3m) and I will need a knee joint(?) plus some of the feed pipes need to be replaced as they are not wide enough to carry the flow of water plus I need a thermostat. I think I get most of this but was a bit surprised at the cost. Perhaps though this is normal?

How long idd he say it take? Can he park? Has he told whaty his labour rate is? Are you in the charge zone?

It is hard to give subjective advice online (see forum rules) but if there is a lot of pipe work then this could be a reasonable charge for London.

On the other hand if there is naff all pipe work and the installation is straight froward then it is a little steep.

My gut reaction to your list of required works is that it is on the upper end the fair bracket.

If it is a Vaillant 831 then it is possibly a little ott, if an 837 then not far out. I would probably be around 2-300 less than this but then I'm only in Noooooorwich!

Without giving the exact model of boiler its impossible to give an opinion on that price.

If its a 24 kW Ecotec and you are outside the CC and in an unrestricted parking area then I would say that about £2300 fully inclusive would be a good target price to aim for.

But then we dont know exactly what the complications are or just whats involved in the move of boiler position.

Tony
