New Electric Oven Wiring

Hi,

We really need to fit an electric oven to replace our old gas oven but have no 'big' wiring into the kitchen, just a ring main and lights. I have just checked and the house has a 100A main fuse, 100A meter and a distribution board with 100A main switch with MCBs of 20,6,6,6 unprotected and 32,32,10,20,32A protected by a 63A RCCB. One of the 6A unprotected MCBs isn't used any more

Can anyone tell me if it we would need a new consumer unit or the 'company' supply fuse to be increased even to run a suitable supply for a 5.3kW oven into the kitchen (looking at the ring main that goes up under the floor upstairs and drops down into the kitchen, a fairly short run).

No, you can just replace the unused 6amp, with a suitably rated one, but near the RCCB end of the consumer unit.

Thanks for that Harry. Makes life a bit easier. Just got to work out how to lift the laminated wooden flooring in the one bedroom now without damaging it to access the hole bringing the cables up from the garage!

The unprotected MCB can be swapped for an RCBO, which will easily give you RCD protection for you new circuit.
