Good morning guys after some advice as usual.

I intend putting up a 6 foot garden fence and gate at the end of the driveway to the house. The main reason is to ensure a secure place to leave our new puppy (German Wire Haired Pointer) who appears able to escape from anywhere.

The construction will form an L shape with the fence running North to South and the gate at right angles (ish) to the fence and in line with the house. One of the main problems is that the driveway has a wall opposite the house creating a funnel resulting in strong winds blowing through where the fence will be erected. The driveway is only 8 feet wide (old cars size) so my thoughts were to use 3 x 4”x4”x8’ posts spaced equally across the driveway with 2 Harris rails mounted horizontally then 3 or 4 inch verticals in a hit and miss arrangement to allow some of the wind to blow through.

Questions are:
1) does this seem reasonable?
2) are 4x4 sufficiently robust?
3) could I use softwood instead of tanilised as the boss would like it painted to match the house.

Many thanks for reading guys and look forward to any&all advice.

Any decent fence should stand the wind.
I've also know wire run across the back to stop the fence flexing and popping out.

Just buy the decent panels not the cheap ones
