Hi,

first time poster, so please excuse me if this sounds stupid!

I have an opening across my drive which I have built double wooden gates about 6 foot high. My problem is high wind blowing gates open, and this morning actually breaking 3 of the down pieces off. I don't use the drive, but need access for bins, etc, and the main reason for the gates is to stop the kids getting out the garden when they are playing..

Should I:

1. Make the gaps in the gates wider to allow the wind to blow through, rather than catching like a kite.

2. Fit heavy springs to keep the gates closed (would this work?).

3. Mixture of 1 and 2.

4. forget about gates in the winter!

Thanks in advance for all your assistance.

Cheers,

Graham.

how are they constructed and what ironmongery do they have on them?

You need a steel band, fixed to one gate, that flips over the other gate upright and holds them together.
See what the National Trust do.....!
