new gas supply to new boiler

Good morning folks.
How far can a new gas supply from an external meter go vertical and then horizontal before going through the wall to a new boiler. Does it have to be protected with capping etc. I am a retired Joiner and all work will be carried out by qualified Gas Safe tradesmen. I would like the pipe to run about 3 metres up and 3 or 4 metres across is this doable within existing regulations.

yes as long as the diameter of the pipe is correctly sized, if it was mine I would do it in Galvanized steel, as the cases of copper being stolen on outside installations is rising all the time

Thanks Ian, I live in social housing in a first floor flat and the work is financed by some kind of grant from the government.I have seen one completed ground floor flat and have seen pipes going in gaps of 2 or 3 inches between sockets and switches etc below the new boiler and it does not look good even though there was limited space for the boiler. I am trying to have my boiler fitted in my storeroom but i think i am banging my head against the wall.

It can be done , not a big deal to be honest, but as already said so much thefts going on now, its the new copper cable stealing from railways scam, these vermin will steal anything rather than get a job , if it is not cable, it is robbing vans, or nicking any visable copper, or even Cat convertors from cars, absolute scum
