Hi I have sowed new grass and it is growning pretty well but it is a bit patchy. Will the patched fill out eventually?

Wait until the grass is about 3" tall then give it a light trim by removing only the top 1"
This will help it to thicken out and not get 'stringy'. If there are still patches you can simply sow a bit more seed. Try not to mow again until the seed has germinated and started to grow as you will probably blow the grass seeds away with the down draught from the mower.
Patience is the key.

The ideal way would be with one of the old style push along mowers but I don't think many people have them anymore.
I find strimmers a bit to coarse for trying to take a certain amount off. A hover mower will do it but use a high setting to begin and lower as necessary.
As I said, once the main part is established then you can re-seed any bare patches. Eventually you will get them to fill out.
