If any of you have more than a passing interest in the current state of our house building industry, then you could not do worse than pop into Kier's Springfields developement in Ibstock, Leicestershire.

Have a gander at the showhome, it really is beyond comprehension.

Most of the Kier back catalogue is ugly as sin and helping to inflate the market by going on at the very top end. Not to mention built for as little as possible.

Great for profit, not so great for whoever's desperate enough to buy them.

By contrast 50's houses are puny compared to Victorian stock. You can make a similar comparison between 1960's stock and today's housing.

There were plenty of Jerry built Victorian houses. Many have been demolished, many fell down between 1939/45, sometimes whole terraces at a time when there was ground disturbance or one house was damaged.

Regardless of the design, it is the build quality that needs to be seen to be believed. This is meant to be the showhouse & I can imagine that many of the plots are sold off plan.

This house would not qualify for a mortgage if anything other than a basic valuation survey were done.

The quality of the brick work is atrocious, it is so bad that even a naive housewifey type, eager for her new kitchen, must be able to stand back & say "that's not right".

The age of the building can be measured in weeks yet it already shows signs of severe mortar erosion.

How on earth can they be allowed to build this crap in this day & age? This is nothing more than a whole world of grief for anyone gullible enough to purchase.

My mate bought a new Persimmon house and the brickwork on that is shocking.

The stuff I did after a bit of advice on here is much better.
