I need to form the new downstairs WC and end of hallway wall (highlighted in yellow)
All other walls shown are existing single or double skin brickwork. The plan was to build these walls in blockwork to give a moire solid feel to what will be a very heavily trafficked area.
I am mindful that there is potential for cracking where the new blockwork joins the old so had planed to board over both and then skim. The WC is circa 1100mm x 1700mm
That is the thinking - These are the questions;
1) Do I need to tie the new and old into each other or can i use wall starters to do this?
2) Do i need to tie the walls into the ceiling in any way or at this size and single story are they fully self supporting?
3) Is the board over and skim the best option for preventing cracks down the joint?
4) Dense blocks or lightweight?
5) Should i build a nib off the left hand side of the WC door in brick/block or just fix the frame into the existing brickwork wall (single skin) - I am worried this would be a weak point.
6) What depth strip footing is required for this?
