Hey!

I know, I know, I should really have a dude come in and do this...... But, I'm on zero income so I need to DIY.

I'm getting through burning oil like crazy & that sweet smell from the flue is suggesting to me that the jet needs replacing - it's over 3 years old & probably well in excess of 15000 litres of wear.

So.... do I just swap it out with a new 1 of the same g/h rating? I may as well vacuum out the heat exchanger at the same time.......

Or is the gonna be some crazy machine needed to test the flow rate & minor adjustment or something?

Probably time for a new boiler for efficiency but, balancing no spare money against the better economies of a new boiler just sucks!

TIA

Rob :D

proper service is all it needs  changing the nozzle will do nowt but waste your hard earned

What you've suggested is ok, but I haven't a clue what you mean by sweet smell, I would never have described it like that.

Ok, maybe not a 'sweet smell' but that kind of 'not burning efficiantly' smell!

:D

Many, many nozzles are no problem, and changing them is an luxury expense. However, if a bit of dirt gets to the nozzle and stops the fuel atomising properly (and I've seen this) then you do get smells, usually oily ones. Investigating the nozzle is pointless, as the investigating wil cost MUCH more than a nozzle. Checking the combustion with an analyser and setting it "correctly" will not cure the problem of poor atomising. It will still smell, yet appear to work properly.
