New light fitting always on...

He's not a proper spark then. I don't know any spark who would do that.

Got him off mybuilder.com. He's got 98 reviews, 100% positive.

Unfortunately many "reviews" are not genuine. And those that are will be from people who do not know enough about electrical things to be able to pass proper judgement on the work carried out by the person they employ. If the light / socket etc etc works then it would appear that the electrician has done a good job.

Most good tradepeople get work by reputation and do not need to use web sites ( other than their own site ) to find customers.

Got him off mybuilder.com.
Most 'trader' web sites like that only need money to get on there. Often there is no/little requirement for qualifications of any sort. A recent TV programme showed that many of the reviews are false, or done by the traders mum, brother, drinking pals, etc.

Not sure where you are located, but the local authorities have a website that shows all of the resgistered electricians in England and Wales.

but even this is not a guarantee of a decent job being done.
Better to get personal recommendations from friends and family.

Hi, is you're wiring in conduit ? It's difficult to tell from the picture. Do you have a round metal box in the ceiling ?
If yes, the conduit may be your earth connection.

Regards,

DS

Have you still got the red wires fed through the metal bracket hole without any protection?

Best to bring the wires through the ceiling at the side of the bracket not through it, that is, if your new fitting is the same design.
