hi, im hoping some of you guys may be able to help me out here. ive just changed 2 lights in my front room. the old lights were single bulbs, and there was a double dimmer switch operating both lights independantly. ive fitted 2 new lights, each which has 3 bulbs. the wiring connections appeared the same for both lights, both old and new ligths had live, neutral and earth wires, so i figured this was going to be a simple enough job. ive fitted new lights, and they do light, but they are very dull, in the daylight it is hard to see them light at all. there is also another issue too. both lights are now operating from just one of the dimmer switches, and the other has no effect. the brightness does not increase or decrease by adjusting the dimmer switch.

sorry for the long post, but i thought id try to get as much information in as possible. i hope somebody can help, could really do with getting this sorted today lol i dont think the parents will want to eat christmas dinner in the dark!

photos of the connections in the lights you've wired will help us to diagnose..

you've obviously gotten the wires wrong somewhere..

or failing that you've overloaded the dimmers.. they are only rated for so many watts..

it could also be that the light you have fitted are low voltage lights? these may not be dimmable..

also, most CFL ( low energy ) lights are not dimmable..
