New patio, can I use existing pebbles as MOT?

As it states really.

Can I use the existing pebbles on my patio (Approx 20mm diameter) to backfill the area after I’ve excavated the soil? I’ll be addding some MOT on top and compacting as well.
 
Yeah, don't see why not. Are you putting a membrane down, so the pebbles don't sink too much, like you'd do with a driveway?
 
They will not compact as well as MOT which is designed to "lock" together I would throw in some sand and cement dust with the pebbles, compact and then wet down with a hose.
